SCHOLARSHIPS
A scholarship fund has been established for our members, to help them
pursue their post-secondary education. The majority of our students have
specific goals in mind, and we would like to help them to attain these
goals. There is a Points Scholarship Program, where every point that you
earn while competing has a value of $1.00. To win an event at a rodeo, you
get 10 points. There is also been an Interview Scholarship, where the kids
who are graduating that year, write an essay about high school rodeo and
then are interviewed. Competitors are judged on their essay as well as
their interview. (This is also an opportunity for kids who are maybe not
so fortunate in their winning, but have great attitudes and have been an
asset to the association.)
There are also scholarship opportunities for teens that
hold executive office, as well as generous scholarship opportunities at
the NHSRA finals. Scholarships are then awarded when the student has been
accepted at a post-secondary school education program. We also allow the
students to postpone their post-secondary education if that is necessary
by having them submit a Letter of Intent, so that we will hold their
scholarship funds over for an additional year. We would welcome any
interest from any organization or individual who would be interested in
learning more about our scholarship program. Some of the
main goals of the Association are to promote the sport of rodeo, offer
educational opportunities, maintain the highest regard for the livestock
and provide an environment of sportsmanship and respect. We encourage
participation in our clinics to ensure that knowledge and safety are a
priority.

Clarification on Collecting Earned Scholarship Points -
Updated November 23, 2007
- In order to collect all earned scholarship points,
student must remain a member in good standing from the time they join
until they graduate. If the student takes a year off and does not pay
their membership fee, they are not eligible to collect previous
scholarship points. If they rejoin, they start as if they were a brand
new member as far as points go.
- If a student joins as a junior member, they must
remain in good standing with the association until they graduate from
high school in order to be eligible for all points earned.
- Effective 2006-2007 Rodeo Season - Year End
Bonus Points will not be given a dollar value.
Please read your Membership Requirements form available on the forms
page.

Raley Mae Rdomskie Student Scholarship
NHSRA past member, Raley Mae Radomske was a student leader and fierce competitor in the sport of rodeo. In 2008, she was the National Student President of the National High School Rodeo Association (NHRSA) and was the organization's National Student Vice President in 2007. She earned four national rodeo championship titles including 2008 National High School All Around Champion Cowgirl. Her accomplishments earned her a full rodeo scholarship to attend New Mexico State University to major in marketing.
In true cowgirl style and spirit, her journey to college was not without its obstacles. At the beginning of August, 2008, as Raley was on her way to college at New Mexico State University, she was diagnosed with a sizeable brain tumor. Raley underwent surgery on Aug. 11 and Aug. 14 to remove a golf ball-size brain tumor at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. The first operation took eight hours and complications developed two hours into the Aug. 14 surgery, turning the planned five-hour operation into two separate procedures. At 4 p.m. on Aug. 14, a breathing tube was removed and she began breathing on her own. She has made amazing progress in the language department, going from being able to say five or six words to much more meaningful statements. Her mom reported on Aug. 18 that results from a CAT scan were positive and that a pathology report showed no signs of cancer. She finally showed right side movement on Aug. 19. It was nothing short of a miracle.
After many months of intensive rehabilitation, Raley was released from the hospital, back on her own at college and was well on her way to fulfilling her dreams. She was able to return to her horses and her greatest love, rodeo. This young woman was and is an inspiration to the entire rodeo community at NHSRA and it is her “never give up” attitude that this scholarship is named after.
The 2009-2010 Junior High National Officers decided to create a scholarship for those individuals who may have or have recently had a set back due to a medical injury or illness.

- Applicant must provide all information required on the Scholarship form to be considered for this award.
- Scholarship amount will be determined by funds raised at the First Annual King’s Contest in Gallup, New Mexico on June 29th during the Parent/Student Dance.
