Ontario High School Rodeo Association (OHSRA)

About Us

The OHSRA is proud to be a part of the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA) and is governed by an executive committee, elected volunteer board of directors at the adult level and an elected executive at the student level.

The OHSRA stresses the importance of education and sportsmanship by teaching life skills such as leadership, responsibility, dedication, and commitment. As support and continuing education is high priority to the High School Rodeo Association, we offer scholarship to successful applicants and encourage our youth to strive for excellence both in and out of the rodeo arena. The Ontario High School Rodeo Association's mission is to promote the positive image of rodeo, preserve the western heritage and maintain the highest regard for the livestock.

OHSRA members compete at provincial level for local recognition. The top 4 from each event in the High School level have the opportunity to go onto the National level and compete in the NHSFR.

 

National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA)

The NHSRAis an international, non-profit organization dedicated to the development of sportsmanship, horsemanship and the sport of rodeo. Created by Texas educator and rodeo contestant Claude Mullins. In 1947 Mr. Mullins saw the need for a program that would encourage youth to pursue further education. The NHSRA held its first finals in Hallettsville, Texas, in 1947. Since then the NHSRA membership has expanded to over 13,000 members from 42 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia.

The National High School Rodeo Association is governed by National Directors. NHSRA National Directors are comprised of one representative from each state / provincial association. They also take the responsibility for planning of the National Board of Directors and are dedicated to the success of the NHSRA and the NJHFR and NHSFR each year.
